Jordan and Carly’s Door County Elopement and More

“And more” seems like a good heading for this blog because when I first met Jordan and Carly, they had planned for a very different wedding. Then, well, you know…the world changed, and as it would happen, their wedding was spilt into an elopement and then to a reception later in Minneapolis.

The “and more” part comes into play because I got to know so much more about them as a couple over time. I got to bond with Jordan about our love for video games and found out that Carly and I love old houses. And let’s not forget that I had months and months to follow their adventures with their Goldendoodle Chewy; that dog is pure joy.

These two have a love language that runs from awkward to dark to loving sarcasm, and I am there for that. I got to know more about their extraordinary satirical senses of humor. How they manage to be both funny and uplifting, and they never take themselves too seriously. Over the time they hired me through their wedding reception, we had so many laughs together that I felt like I had known them forever by the time their wedding came.

I can’t go so far to say that I am glad we had to live through a worldwide pandemic, but I can say that it’s taught me that getting to know my clients well before their wedding has become even more important to me than it was before.

Airbnb Elopement in Door County

Door County, Wisconsin, is the perfect spot when planning a destination elopement! Not only is it incredibly beautiful, but there are also plenty of Airbnb options to choose from. Here are just a few reasons why Airbnb is a perfect choice for your elopement.

1. You’ll have more privacy than you would at a hotel.

2. You’ll have more space for yourselves than you would at a hotel.

3. You’ll have a kitchen to prepare meals; Carly and Jordan’s brother-in-law cooked their wedding dinner!

4. You’ll have access to laundry facilities, which is especially important if you’re planning on staying and enjoying all the great things to do in the Door County Peninsula.

5. You’ll be able to relax in your own space after your elopement.

Jordan and Carly chose a great location on a pretty pebbled beach with a lake view for their intimate elopement with just friends and family. Then we were able to go off and make some incredible portraits of just the two of them at sunset!

Wedding Receptions at Mintahoe at Solar Arts Minnesota

This gorgeous location was the perfect choice for their wedding reception because it merged all the things they love; a great downtown location and lots of architecture so we could geek out at how cool this building was. I was so excited to photograph there!

The Solar Arts Building in Minneapolis is a multi-purpose arts center that offers various services to the community. The building was originally opened in 1915 as the Minneapolis Public Library and later served as the city’s first YWCA. It underwent a major renovation in 2006 and reopened as the Solar Arts Building. Today, the building is home to a variety of arts organizations and a great place to hold an urban wedding in Minneapolis.

The reception was as much fun as we had hoped.  So many shared laughs (and shared drinks) and seriously the most enormous dessert table I have ever seen!

It was a pleasure to get to know you guys, Carly and Jordan. I hope your wedding photos remind you of what a great day both of your celebrations were…and more.
