The Freight House Wedding

Founded in 1978 and awardee of the Heritage Award by the La Crosse Historical Preservation Society, and recognized as a National Historic Site, The Freighthouse in historic downtown La Crosse brings hometown history and impeccable dining options into one beautiful wedding venue or event space.  Voted “Best of La Crosse County” several years as the Best Restaurant (Overall), in addition to being consistently voted best steak and seafood,  one thing you don’t have to worry about when celebrating here is a disappointing dinner.

The history of the building will have you and your guests feeling nostalgic – built in 1880, The Freight House contained the freight offices of the Milwaukee Road and handled all incoming freight.  Three to four hundred cars were handled daily by the Milwaukee Road in La Crosse alone. After freight services were halted in 1955, the building was used by private businesses until April 1978, when renovations began to preserve one of the few remaining 19th Century railroad depots, and The Freighthouse Restaurant opened soon after.

The Freighthouse has three banquet halls and meeting rooms for private parties of 10 to 120, and dinners may be ordered off the regular menu individually, or through one of their mouthwatering party plans.  Party plans include choice of salad bar or salads served – and while some may believe that all salads are created equally – there is something unique about The Freighthouse salad bar…it tickles your palette in some kinda way!  The plans include options like delectable sirloin, delicious chicken teriyaki, tasty fresh fish, and savory prime rib – just to name a few. The Freighthouse also has an impressive list of whiskey and wine offerings for you and your guests to enjoy on your special day.
